DAY 1

Morning

Guided walking tour of Luxembourg City (2 hours)

Experience the delights of UNESCO World Heritage capital Luxembourg City, and discover its fascinating attractions steeped in history and modernity.

Take a two-hour walking tour with a guide organised by the Luxembourg City Tourist Office to discover the capital’s highlights! From the tree-lined Place d’Armes and the early 19th century City Hall on Place Guillaume II, to the Flemish Renaissance-style Grand Ducal Palace and Parliament buildings, the iconic Golden Lady monument and beyond.

Lunch: the city’s squares have numerous cafes and brasseries that can cater to group bookings and in winter, tour groups can enjoy the Christmas markets.

Afternoon

MUDAM – contemporary art gallery

A striking contemporary art museum designed by the late Chinese-American architect Ieoh Ming Pei,  the Musée d’Art Modern Grand-Duc Jean’s (MUDAM) magnificent silhouette stands amid a fortress and sea of green, a few steps away from the European quarter. Guided tours can be booked (English, French and German) to further admire its internationally renowned collections and exhibitions.

Evening

Stop for an aperitif or dinner on the neighbouring Place de l’Europe at the Luxembourg Philharmonic, another architectural marvel by Christian de Portzamparc. Concert bookings can be included.

DAY 2

Morning

Vianden Castle & The Family of Man exhibition

Start the day with a guided tour of the fairy-tale Gothic Vianden Castle, then visit Clervaux Castle to see the UNESCO inscribed The Family of Man photography exhibition, a manifesto for peace and equality in the post-war years, that brings together an evocative collection of 500 photographs from around the world.

Lunch at Clervaux at one of the many restaurants found in the square below the castle.

Afternoon

Little Switzerland and Medieval Echternach

Take a guided tour of the Mullerthal region, known as Luxembourg’s Little Switzerland to see some outstanding natural beauty, forests, unusual rock formations and the famous waterfall, Schiessentümpel. Enjoy a pastry or ice cream in the picturesque town square of medieval Echternach and take a tour of the 7th century Abbey.

DAY 3

Morning

Industrial heritage

Visit the former steelworks of Belval and see some important industrial sites, all lovingly restored and offering a window on Europe’s industrial heritage.

Walking tours teach you about the City of Science and the Blast Furnaces now surrounded by modern architecture. Learn about our industrial past and climb up a blast furnace to a 40m high viewing platform offering spectacular views. Tours last 1.5 to 2 hours.

Take a number of themed tours in the Minette Park, an outdoor museum where you can discover the Fond-de-Gras mining site, ride along a former Mining Line by a 1900s steam train or draisine rail bike, visit the historic and charming mining village of Lasauvage and much more.

Afternoon

Moselle region

In the southeast, you’ll find the beautiful Moselle wine region, filled with vineyards and stunning views of this famous river. You have several options:

1. Hop aboard the MS Princesse Marie-Astrid for a river cruise (on-board dining optional).

2. Visit a wine cellar for a tour and tasting with a local wine grower,

3. Try a themed walking tour such as “Riesling & Geology” or “L’ABC of Wine”.

4. Discover Schengen and its monuments and museum dedicated to the EU freedom of movement agreement that was signed here

5. Take a dip in the restorative thermal spa waters at Mondorf Domaine Thermal
