Museum Steamtram Hoorn-Medemblik is the leading museum about Dutch steam tram history. Both our fascinating Hoorn museum site and our scenic railway have a lot to offer. Enjoy a trip in our heritage tramway coaches, be sure to spot our historic bridges and buildings along the route, and take in the breathtaking scenery from the deck of our heritage steamer “Friesland”. A visit to museum Steamtram Hoorn-Medemblik consists of several parts; be sure not to miss any!
The engine whistles and the fireman shovels coal into the firebox. Wooden partitions creak, wheels sing and steam hisses. From the wooden 3rd class seats in your carriage you will experience a story from a different era. Between the historic “Zuiderzee” towns of Hoorn , Medemblik and Enkhuizen steamtrams meander from village to village across the Westfrisian countryside and an old-fashioned steamer with a fantastic saloon-deck sails along the coast of lake IJsselmeer.
Pay a visit to the Museum Steamtram and step on board for one of the most thrilling journeys through time. This is the Registered Museum focusing on the history of the steam tramways in Holland.

1. Enjoy a Classic Holland Experience
The engine whistles and the fireman puts coal onto the fire. Wooden partitions creak, wheels sing and steam hisses. The start of the most exciting journey through time in Holland. Get on board and relive an experience from a different era. In springtime the steamtrams will take you through the most colourful bulbfields in this ancient Dutch countryside. This Classic Holland Experience is easy to reach: it’s situated just north of Amsterdam and Schiphol airport.

Ferry from Enkhuizen to Medemblik with coffee and Dutch apple pie on board
Visit to ancient Medemblik
Travel by steamtram to Hoorn with packed lunch
Visit to locomotive workshop, station exhibition and signal box Hoorn
for children: exploration ‘Steam Safari’.

For all tours we can arrange transfers to and from the locations and/or dinner. It is also possible to combine this day with a visit of Haarlem or Zaanse Schans or start the day with a guided tour in Amsterdam. We can make a tailor made program for your group, according their wishes.
